Putney BKL Race at Grafton Ponds on Sunday, January 29, 2012

From Coach Eric Aho:

Hi All -

What a sight! Over 80 BKL skiers from 11 different clubs and teams. There was certainly a Festival-like atmosphere at Grafton today. Putney's first hosted race of the season saw strong performances from many skiers including many out for the first of second time. The conditions were perfect for some fast skiing. Please see the attached spreadsheets for results.

We would like to say GREAT JOB to all the skiers and parents who participated. We would also like to thank the volunteers: Kevin, Joe, Mark, Amanda, Henny, Lynne, Jack, Kristin, and Jenny (there were so many- I hope I have not forgotten anyone)! Nice job with the course Poppet! And cheers to Hans for keeping his finger on the pulse of the day! A rery special thanks to Alan, Sally, Rebecca, and Camilla for running registration today. We are indebted to Sally Seymour for compiling the details of today's race. We are looking forward to skiing on Wednesday. It is our great hope to head out into the woods with the whole bunch for a long overdue tour! More details in Monday/Tuesday's email.

Hi All!

What a great practice today and such unbridled enthusiasm ( for skiing as much as cookies!) with eager skiing well beyond sunset. We are all so proud of these kids and their parents for staying with the fun and as Mary Heller Osgood said, " getting swept along" in such a large crowd.

We would really like to thank Kristin Dawley for organizing the transportation. It made all the difference! And a special thanks to Diny and Mary for joining us today!

Until Nature delivers the goods, we will plan to meet next week at Grafton.

Please take a look at the race information below and consider joining us. Races are fun and fast and a great way to try out what you have learned at practice.

Looking forward to another chance to ski with everyone!

Eric, Hans and the Volunteer Coaches

CLASSIC RACE SUNDAY

Start time 10 am for Lollipoppers

Older skiers: please arrive early - around 9:3 0am - to get sufficiently warmed up.

The race is "hosted" by the Prospect Club. The format is classic (no skate skis). The categories represent school grades. (1-2 is first and second grade and so on). A child may move up a category, for example a 4th grader may ski with the 5-6 category, but may not drop down a grade category. If your child plans to participate in the race on Sunday, please let Eric and Hans know as soon as possible so we can be prepared for waxing and ski prep the night before. Details to follow.

Course: start in front of touring center, go south, turn left (either first or second left) go up hill to the top of the tubing hill, come down, then go straight onto the loop in the field. On last lap turn left into the start area for the finish.

Number of laps will be determined by weather and conditions prior to the start of the race. At present it looks like the following:

Lollipop: do flat loop in field.
1-2: 1 lap
3-4: 2 laps
5-6: 3 laps
7-8 4 laps
-or-
1-2: do some sort of field loops combo (never head up onto tubing hill loop).
3-4: 1 lap
5-6: 2 laps
7-8 3 laps
