This three week long arts, nature, and athletics-focused program is committed to the same standard of excellence that The Grammar School provides year round. This is an opportunity to work with professional artists and educators. Fun, learning, and creativity are emphasized in each of the summer components. Students may pick courses to create a mixed day program that matches their interests.

The preschool camp is for children ages 4-6 and can be either a full day or half day. Whether exploring pond life, mixing colors and painting, or acting out different Vermont animals that they have seen, the topic creates a focus for the session. Stories are read and told, explorations into the surrounding forest are undertaken, and songs and games are learned and played. The day also includes snack, quiet breaks, and time for choice exploration.
This arts-focused camp allows students the opportunity to explore new ideas and projects with teaching artists in a setting devoted exclusively to the arts. Students choose from a variety of classes including clay sculpture, woodworking, theater, stained glass creative writing, painting, puppet making, mosaics, mask-making, and costume design. Traditionally on the final day of each program the halls fill with a display of artwork, and students in handmade masks parade through the school, leading parents and students to the gym to view various performing arts productions.
Each of our athletic programs is based around a sport. Whether soccer, biking, dance, swimming or another offering, personal challenge and fun are emphasized. This is a chance to develop technique and gain confidence in one’s abilities. The biking classes cover bike care and maintenance, single-track rides, dirt road tours, jumps, bumps, and mastering the challenging wooden bridge obstacle course. Soccer classes provide the novice a chance to get a jump on the fall season, and the more experienced player a chance to improve her or his overall technique for year round playing enjoyment.
Using the natural setting as a jumping off point, this component is all about experimenting and trial and error. Have you ever wanted to make a catapult? How far can you send a Nerf ball using a plastic spoon and a rubberband? What forces are at work? Did you ever want to dig deeper into the mysteries of soil? Using microscopes and the basics of laboratory science students will find the answers to their own questions. Wilderness skills and the lost secrets of the land will be other areas to explore. The school’s organic garden and the forest will be the classroom.
