Ginny Motes has been teaching first grade at TGS since 1987.
First grade is a magical year during which students become successful learners and it is our belief that they learn best by doing. First graders build confidence and skills through active learning as individuals, in small groups, and through shared activities. The class works together to build a safe and friendly atmosphere in which to discover the world around them throughout the year.
Two wonderful field trips take place to the Pequot Museum to learn about Native Americans and to the Montshire Museum for an overnight adventure.
In the fall weaving baskets, creating clay bowls and making totem poles add to the study of the Native American.
Visual arts include weaving, pottery, drawing, and painting. Performing arts include a spring play and skits.
Each child cuts out a human body and then fills their body with creatively colored organs as they are completed and studied.
