The Grammar School hosted the 10th annual TGS Invitational XC running meet on Wednesday, October 14, on a rolling course that wound around the fields and through the woods near the school. 58 students from The Grammar School, Putney Central School, BAMS, Academy School, and Reading Elementary competed in the mile and 1.5 mile races. Seven of them had so much fun running the mile course that as soon as they crossed the finish line they lined up to run the second race.

The Reading team took the first two places in the girls’ mile, led by Abby Kaija from Reading in 6:31, Lindsay Appleton in 7:05, and followed by Aaliyah Jacobs from Academy School in 7:15. In the boys’ race, Russell Boswell from TGS sprinted to the line to win in 6:21, just one second ahead of second place finisher Matt Dulmaine from Academy. Third place in the boys’ mile was Justin Wheeler in 6:53, also from Academy.

20 runners competed in the two-lap 1.5-mile race. TGS runners Victoria Jaenson and Erin Sternfels took the top two places for the girls in 11:40 and 11:43, followed by Gabi Sigda from BAMS in 11:58. For the boys, Sebbi Wu from TGS took first place by a comfortable margin in 9:33, with BAMS runners Austin Lester in second in 10:07 and Josh Parro in third in 10:10.

Team awards in the one-mile race went to the Reading girls and The Grammar School boys, while TGS girls and the BAMS boys won the 1.5-mile trophies.

As Reading coach Lisa Kaija noted, “It is always one of our favorite afternoons in the fall. A TGS race runs like a well-oiled machine!”
