Graduation 2009

by Mark Green

On a serene Friday afternoon of June 12th, The Grammar School (TGS) in Putney, Vermont held its 8th Grade commencement.  Beginning with a class performance by the graduating students of “All you Need is Love” by Lennon and McCartney, Steve Lorenz, the Head of School, welcomed the community.

The TGS faculty and staff presented a series of personal reflections on the graduates, and students individually delivered heartfelt poems, stories and songs.

The Class of 2009 then sang “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane. Lorenz and Elizabeth Olmsted, Chair of the TGS Board of Trustees, then awarded diplomas to the 14 graduates. The class then sang “Forever Young” by Youth Group.

Musicians for the songs included students Harry Silbaugh on drums, Robert Baskett on bass and Clay Henry West on guitar.
