The Bill Koch League cross country ski practice started at The Grammar School on Wednesday, January 7th. The emphasis was on fun and games as 30 skiers ranging in age from 5 to 14 years, 6 coaches, and many parents came together for an afternoon of games and instruction on cross country skis. Coach Rick Gordon led the older students playing tag and soccer on skis, while the younger children practiced falling down and getting up, going up and down hills, and making human obstacle courses with Hannah Hornsby, Eric Aho, and Mary Heller Osgood. A group of racers learned the finer points of perfecting their skating (on skis) technique, instructed by Stratton Mountain School coach Poppet Boswell, Charlie Boswell, and Tim Weed.
The Grammar School has hosted the Bill Koch League for over 25 years, introducing many local children to the lifelong enjoyment of cross country skiing.
