Back in the early 1990's, when I was working at The Putney School as Director of Financial Aid and Associate Director of Admissions, I paid a reconnaissance visit to Marcia Leader, Admissions Director at The Grammar School. Our first child was not yet born, but I was determined to ensure that our children would have the very best educational experience possible.

I was immediately struck by this vibrant community of learners. The children seemed remarkably happy. There was LOTS happening everywhere. The excitement expressed by teachers and students was palpable. You could feel it.

Years later, my dreams have come true, and even more so. Not only do my two daughters thoroughly enjoy their TGS experience, (there has not been a single day that they did not want to go to school), as Development Director I relish the fact that I am able to share the joy and beauty expressed at TGS with the rest of the world.

TGS Grandparent: “ When I think about TGS, I think about the extent to which the kids are enriched by such a broad experience. Those special things can be done only because of the devotion of staff AND the commitment of the entire TGS community. A contribution is not just a gift. It is an investment in the school and in the children.”

The primary role of the Development office is, of course, to raise funds to keep the school moving forward. Financial aid, maintenance, programs, technology, etc. are made possible thanks to the support of individuals who believe in TGS and its mission. But beyond the bottom line, cultivating and sustaining relationships within and outside the TGS community remain a critical component. Friend-raising and fund-raising are one and the same.

I look forward to hearing from you. I welcome your input and support and do hope you will think of TGS through volunteering, financial support, and/or sharing news of our alumni.

Sincerely,

Mark R. Green
